What is the Global Partnership on AI?
Launched in 2020 under the leadership of Canada and France, GPAI is a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at bridging the gap between theory and practice in the development of responsible AI. Grounded in the OECD Principles on Artificial Intelligence, GPAI fosters international collaboration by bringing together experts from science, industry, civil society, governments, international organizations, and academia.
A major milestone occurred on July 1, 2024, when GPAI officially entered into an integrated partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This transition marked a turning point in GPAI’s governance, solidifying its international reach and operational maturity. The integrated partnership now brings together 44 member countries, including the European Union, and more than 500 international experts whicu include the Network of Centres.
What are GPAI-Associated Projects?
The Network of Centres are developing experimental and applied projects in complementarity to the GPAI brand through their exploratory, use-case-based approach. The GPAI-associated projects are designed to develop applied outputs anchored through an evidence-based dynamic and oriented by scientific advisors.
The strength of the integrated partnership is combining consensus policy-oriented projects through the GPAI brand and exploratory applied implementation initiatives through the associated brand. This is a distinctive element of the GPAI framework in the international conversation; it federates the existing knowledge of scientists and practitioners to support consensus.
What does Scaling Responsible AI Solutions actually mean?
A responsible AI solution is grounded in a vision of AI that is human-centered, fair, equitable, inclusive and respectful of privacy, human rights and democracy, and aims at contributing positively to the public good.
Scaling refers to expanding the capabilities of a digital product. This can mean increasing the number of clients, features, services, or adapting to new legal jurisdictions/territories.
A true responsible AI solution is one that maintains responsible attributes from its design phase to its large scale adoption.

What if I am not able to share the required information and/or level of detail requested?
We can provide a version of the project’s information in our communications which protects the sensitive information of your project. We assure you that nothing will be shared or published without your team’s consent. If necessary, we can also arrange to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
My AI project is in its early development stages and I don't yet have a pilot for my AI solution, I am wondering if I can still apply for the mentorship program?
Unfortunately, the current mentorship program is designed for teams that have reached a certain level of maturity and have a pilot project in place, as this helps them to scale effectively. However, CEIMIA is currently evaluating the development a “pre-mentorship” phase that will include interactive training sessions to guide teams at any stage of development in fostering responsible AI and scaling literacy. If this is of interest to you, please fill out the contact form to get in touch with the CEIMIA team.
